Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson
If you’re in the Lake Jackson area, I would recommend a stop at Sea Center Texas. The facility is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and offers visitors a chance to learn about the marine environment along the Texas coast.
In the visitor center you’ll find a number of large aquariums featuring the inhabitants of both marine and wetland environments. Additionally, there’s a really nice touch tank with some surprisingly large hermit crabs, some Blue Crabs and Spider Crabs.
The center operates the world’s largest redfish hatchery, manages 36 one-acre fish culture ponds and also maintains a scenic wetland exhibit. On the day we visited, we came across an alligator sunning itself, both a Snowy Egret and a Great Egret, Red-eared Sliders, and even a Water Moccasin swimming across the pond.
Admission to Sea Center Texas is free.
