The Backspace in Austin
When we travel, we often seem to make meal choices based on convenience. The criteria is often location (how far do we have to walk/drive?) or whether or not it's familiar (will they have something I like?). It's an easy solution but not terribly exciting. Our first evening in Austin, Tim decided to search for a more unique meal. After finding a restaurant with some impressively positive reviews, we walked over to The Backspace at San Jacinto/6th Street.
The restaurant only seats 30, so it's a little cramped. The upside is that cramped also results in cozy. We ordered a cheese board as an appetizer and a Margherita pizza to share. The cheese board came with some very good bread, four different cheeses, a chutney, and spiced nuts. It turned out to be quite filling, but the chance to discuss favorites made it a fun choice. The pizza turned out to be the best Margherita pizza we've had! Despite the fact that the lighting is so minimal that Tim had to pull out his phone flashlight to read the menu, The Backspace is an eatery we can highly recommend.
